A joint funeral service was held at the Stanger High School on Sunday for seven members of a KwaZulu-Natal family brutally murdered last week.

Preliminary reports indicate the victims were abducted from their home in Newark before being driven to Melmoth, where they were killed using knives and firearms.

The victims from the Monswamy and Padayachee families were later found in a nearby field.

The motive for the killings remains unclear at this stage; however, three suspects have been arrested and are expected to appear in court this week.

Speaking at the funeral, uMhlathuze councillor Ray Govender said the tragedy has sent shockwaves throughout the community.
