The South African Police Service (SAPS) Political Killings Task Team (PKTT) has taken over an investigation into the murder of an accountant of the Emfuleni Local Municipality.

Martha Rantsofu was shot dead in March outside a tyre shop in Vanderbijlpark.

The killing was captured on CCTV footage, and it has been widely circulated on social media.

Rantsofu was previously employed in the municipality’s revenue collection department and would later be promoted to city accountant.

In a social media post, a leaked video of the CCTV footage shows Rantsofu standing between two cars while on her phone.

A man walks up from behind her, opens fire and after she falls to the ground, he fires more shots before fleeing.

Gauteng police said no arrests have yet been made.
