Several road closures are in place to accommodate the Ultra Marathon in Cape Town on Saturday.

It marks the first of the two major Two Oceans marathons.

Chapman’s Peak Drive was closed at 6 pm on Friday night and is expected to reopen at midday on Saturday.

Closures along the 56-kilometre race route were affected at 3 am.

Sunday's 21-kilometre half-marathon will see Newlands Main Road, the M3 southbound, and Paradise Road in Newlands closed from 3 am.

Ladies Mile Extension Road in Upper Constantia and Rhodes Avenue in Newlands will also be affected during the same period.

Safety and Security Chief JP Smith said, "As we welcome thousands of runners and visitors, we are reminded of the Two Ocean Marathon's role in strengthening Cape Town's position as a leading destination for sport and active lifestyle tourism, while showcasing our capability as a world-class host of major events."
