Professor John Lamola has resigned as CEO of South African Airways (SAA), with his departure effective at the end of April.
His resignation was accepted during a board meeting attended by Transport Minister Barbara Creecy, acting in her capacity as the government’s shareholder representative.
Lamola steered SAA through a pivotal era in the national carrier's history.
His tenure with the airline began in July 2021, when he joined as a non-executive director and board chairperson.
He was subsequently appointed as Group CEO in May 2022.
Creecy thanked Lamola for his service, describing him as a dedicated and distinguished public servant at the national carrier.
