Police are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old man after an alleged smash-and-grab on Jakes Gerwel Drive.
Primedia+ Digital Content Editor Barbara Friedman spoke to CapeTalk's Sara-Jayne Makwala King about the incident which happened on 1 April.
"It's very unclear what the details around it are. It seems as though this happened, and then, as he was moving away, he was shot. So we don't know who shot him. I very much doubt it was the motorist at that point. So it seems like it was somebody else in the community or around.
"He was shot dead, and there's a video of him lying on the ground. Not something for the faint-hearted. No one wants to see that.
"I'm not here to comment on the view on whether we should be vigilantes. We should not be vigilantes. We should not be taking matters into our own hands, but I think the Capetonians who drive that road, that gauntlet, have had enough," said Friedman.
