Minister of Public works and Infrastructure Dean Macpherson has welcomed a correction by City Press following a report that had falsely questioned his handling of travel expenses.

The newspaper had previously claimed Macpherson ignored legal advice regarding his partner’s trip to Brazil and misstated travel costs.

The updated report confirms the minister was unaware of any alleged internal disagreement.

The correction also clarifies that the total cost of the Brazil working visit, which included the public works minister’s partner, was R350,000, and that no duplicate or wasteful bookings were made.

In a statement, Macpherson linked the false reporting to what he describes as a coordinated campaign to derail his department’s clean-up efforts.

These include suspensions, resignations, lifestyle audits, and disciplinary action.

He also referenced reports that the State Security Agency has been asked to investigate alleged observation targeting him and senior officials.

The minister has called for the correction to be published across all platforms, reaffirmed his commitment to transparency, and urged responsible and accurate reporting.
