University of Cape Town (UCT) staffers say they will continue with their strike and protests at the institution until their demand for a 7% pay hike is met.
Many of the university's professional, administrative and support service staff have downed tools as negotiations with university executives for a wage increase continue.
Various unions representing the staff met with university management on Friday to resolve the dispute.
UCT administrative worker Neliswa Sigonyela said the outcome of the meeting will determine whether protests continue.
"If the management decided, or they made an agreement that is fair then we are going to go back to our offices and work but if not, we are continuing," said Sigonyela.
UCT spokesperson Elijah Moholola said the university executive remains committed to reaching a mutual resolution.
"The executive has put in place contingency plans to minimise the possible impact of the picketing action on university operations," said Moholola.
He also urged staff in the university's essential services departments to comply with the minimum service agreement.
