Five suspects are behind bars after a high-speed car chase and shootout with law enforcement officers in Seawinds, near Muizenberg, on Thursday night.
The incident ensued after Law Enforcement LEAP officers spotted a hijacked vehicle in the area following a tip-off from SAPS.
City Law Enforcement spokesperson Wayne Dyason says four firearms were recovered, including fifty rounds of ammunition, thirteen mandrax tablets, 41 sachets of tik, and four suspected stolen cellphones.
"The suspects were pursued in a car chase and started shooting at the officers. The officers returned fire, resulting in two suspects being shot in St. Luke's Close, Seawinds. The two injured suspects were taken to Groote Schuur Hospital. Five suspects in total were arrested," Dyason said.
