The African National Congress (ANC)  says it will intensify its renewal programme because the credibility of the organisation depends on it.

The party’s reputation has taken a beating in recent years, with its public representatives frequently linked to corruption and malfeasance.

With an election expected before the end of the year, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbhalula says the party will continue to insist that all its office bearers receive political education to ensure disciplined, capable, and ethical leadership.

Following last week’s Lekgotla, the national executive says it has reaffirmed that renewal requires firm, principled leadership that puts the interests of people and the organisation above personal and factional considerations.

ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbhalula says the party will thus be tightening the screws on ill-discipline amid reports of councillors doing wrong.

"Issues of people running around with BMWs misbehaving in the municipalities, they must explain themselves to the authorities. If they are found to be in the wrong, the anc will take steps. "

With an election looming, Mbalula says the Lekgotla has emphasised the need to strengthen its monitoring, evaluation, and accountability systems.

It has launched its own hotline for citizens to report service delivery failures.

"A renewed ANC  must be humble, accessible, and responsive. A movement that reconnects with communities, not only during elections."

Mbalula says the ANC’s deployment practices will prioritise competence, integrity, and commitment to service.
