The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) said no evidence has been found to support claims that live electrical wires were involved in the death of a Grade 3 pupil at Klapmuts Primary School.

The learner died on school grounds on Friday, and the cause of his death remains a mystery.

The department said an assessment team, which included an independent electrical contractor, was on site at the school last Friday to investigate the allegations.

The WCED said the inspection at the school found no live wires or unsafe electrical connections that could be linked to the boy's death.

Following the assessment, the school reopened on Monday, and classes resumed.

Police said they're investigating the tragic incident.

A post-mortem report, to determine the exact cause of death, is still outstanding.

Police said no further details can be released at this stage.
