The Western Cape Serious and Violent Crimes Unit has made a breakthrough in a mass shooting in Philippi East last weekend that claimed nine lives.
Police reports indicate that three suspects entered an illegal liquor outlet shortly after midnight, where six people were killed at the scene.
One victim died enroute to hospital, another a few hours later, while the final victim succumbed to injuries days later.
The woman owner of the outlet is reportedly one of the people who died from injuries sustained.
Police spokesperson Novela Potelwa said that a 19-year-old suspect was arrested in Zweletemba, Worcester, on Wednesday.
"He is facing nine counts of murder and an attempted murder. With investigations gaining momentum, more arrests are expected in due course."
