Swarts has previously been implicated in gang-related crimes.

In 2022, Swarts was arrested alongside Ronz Matthew for the kidnapping of two Egyptian pilots who were students at a facility in Vereeniging.

The pilots were at a club in Germiston when they were kidnapped and kept in a house in Bryanston, where police later found them after a ransom demand was made.

He was charged with kidnapping and extortion.

On Tuesday, he was in court for another matter.

"According to information at hand, the group of people who were shot, were in court to support an accused who was appearing on a murder and attempted murder case that happened in April 2025 at Mondeor," said Gauteng police spokesperson Brenda Muridili.

After the shooting, the suspects ran off in a white Audi vehicle.
