Western Cape Premier Alan Winde says while policing remains a national competency, the province is committed to providing support to the SAPS where possible, following an oversight visit to the Kraaifontein police station on Monday.
The premier's visit is part of the provincial government’s efforts to assess policing capacity and evaluate crime-fighting resources across the Cape.
In crime statistics released in November last year, murders in Kraaifontein rose by 23% between July and September 2025, up from 52 cases to 64.

Winde said communities deserve to feel safe and that collaboration between the province and SAPS is essential to achieving that goal.
“I got a briefing on specifically this area of Kraaifontein, Bloekombos, Wallacedene, where we have multiple murders that are happening. We've got to get on top of this, we've got to find convictions, we've got to find arrests and we've got to bring extortion and gangsterism that drives these things under control.”
