Urban renewal efforts in Johannesburg’s CBD are gaining momentum through strategic partnerships aimed at creating safer, cleaner, and more liveable spaces.
Absa prides itself on being a purpose-led organisation. Group CEO Kenny Fihla says it's about more than simply ticking a Corporate Social Investment (CSI) box.
"Any corporate that does not recognise that it has a role to play in the overall development of society, and that everything that we do must have an impact – a positive one – on the development of our own economies, our own countries, as well as our own people."
To Fihla, leaving a good legacy is an important factor.
"You have to do things that are significant, that are meaningful."
Fihla explains why Absa is proud to be associated with initiatives like Jozi My Jozi, which is helping to clean up and revitalise the Joburg CBD.
"We have to create an environment that is safe to work in, safe to live in, and safe to walk the streets... it will make the CBD of Johannesburg a place where people want to be.
He emphasises that long-term strategic partnerships are essential for success, and the positive improvements all contribute towards making Joburg a safer environment that is desirable for investors.
"It is about making a contribution that can transform the lives of many people."
