The Knysna Municipality says every effort is being made to avoid reaching "day zero" water restrictions.
Executive Mayor Thando Matika says the town is facing water scarcity, with only 26 days of available water storage supply.
Restrictions are in place to conserve water and prevent the worst-case scenario.
“We have established a Joint Operations Committee from provincial and national government, bringing in experts to come and assist in the situation," he says.

Due to the town’s history of water challenges, its two decommissioned desalination plants are now being considered for revival.
“They have been decommissioned for more than 10 years. So, we are looking at it, spoken to those providers that built them and assessing the costing,” he says.
