Road closures are now in effect in Green Point ahead of the minstrel parade.

The Kaapse Klopse Karnival Association's parade will begin at 11am with minstrels marching up Somerset Road towards the DHL Stadium.

Other affected routes include Green Point Main Road, Prestwich Street, Chiappini Street, Ebenezer Road, and Waterkant Street.

City of Cape Town spokesperson Luthando Tyhalibongo said the event will also be broadcast to homes across the country via the national broadcaster.

"Tens of thousands of spectators are expected to line the street parade route which is free of charge to the public. The historic broadcast allows South Africans everywhere to share in the joy, pride and spectacle of the parade," said Tyhalibongo.
