The minstrel street parade did not take place on the traditional historic route.
Minstrels were set to advance up Somerset Road towards the DHL Stadium with what was expected to be a notably smaller crowd than in previous years.
While spectators were still making their way along Somerset Road, spirits remained high.
The parade was set to begin at 11am and was, for the first time, broadcast to every home in the country by the national broadcaster.
