SAPS vows justice after off-duty cop shot dead in KZN

KwaZulu Natal police have vowed to uncover the circumstances behind the murder of another officer in the province.

Constable Mpendulo Ndlovu was shot in KwaMashu on Christmas Day.

Provincial police commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi said it's concerning that the force is losing its officers in this manner.

Last year constable Mvelo Gcabashe was also shot dead in Durban.

His murder is still being investigated.

The murders have also become common as police continue to wage war against suspected criminals.

Mkhwanazi said they have some information about the murders.

"What we've noticed in some instances and majority of the times that police officers that end up coming victims of the crime in majority of the time are police officers that get involved in shady thing - questionable behaviours," said Mkhwanazi.

But Mkhwanazi indicated that this might not be a similar case in Ndlovu's murder case.

"We will investigate that and we will be able to the bottom of what is happening," said Mkhwanazi.

Mkhwanazi added that crime affects everyone including police but maintained that he is worried about the killing of those meant to serve and protect.
