ANC welcomes court ruling ordering City to find alternative venue for Minstrel Carnival

The ANC in the Western Cape has welcomed the court victory for the Cape Town Minstrel Carnival Association.
Monday night, Judge James Lekhuleni ordered the City of Cape Town to provide an alternative venue for the association and to assist them in complying with the Safety at Sports and Recreational Events.

The City of Cape Town argued that the Vygieskraal stadium approval was revoked because the event was graded as medium risk while Vygieskraal can only host low risk events.
Provincial Convener for the ANC Jerimia Thunysma said the government at levels has a responsibility to enable communities to practice their culture.
"And that for me basically is what we raised early this morning already, is that we have a responsibility to ensure that people have the right to practice their culture," said Thunysma.
