The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) has called on owners whose vehicles have been impounded to collect their vehicles, or the city will dispose of them.

EMPD spokesperson, Kelebogile Thepa, said about 170 vehicles, which include cars, trucks and motorbikes, were impounded and have been gathering dust for months, costing taxpayers money in storage fees.

If they are not claimed and collected by 27 January 2026, the city dispose of these vehicles per legislature.

“The primary mandate is for the owners to claim what is rightfully theirs, but they must understand that there are fees payable in relation to the storage pound fees and administrative fees.”

To claim a vehicle, owners must bring their identification documents and a proof of ownership.
