Kwazulu-Natal’s transport department said that road traffic enforcement campaigns will continue beyond the festive season and into the Easter holidays next year.
The province is conducting by-law and traffic enforcement operations under the Nenzani la Ezweni campaign.
Since August, more than 2,600 motorists have been arrested for drunk driving.
On Friday alone, over a hundred motorists were arrested across Margate, Stanger, and Newcastle.
Among those were a policeman, firefighter, paramedic and two teachers.
Department Spokesperson Ndabezinhle Sibiya said that the oldest alleged drunk driver was 74-years- old.
"The MEC (Siboniso Duma) has said the level of commitment displayed by the RTI team is unmatched. The people of Kwazulu-Natal are encouraged by this loyalty to serve this province. He has offered to ensure the hashtag Nenzani la Ezweni is sustained until the Easter and beyond."
