Some residents in the City of Tshwane remain without power following a fire at the Koedoespoort substation, which caused electricity interruptions in several areas.
The city says communities in Queenswood, Kilner Park, and Koedoespoort remain affected until further notice.
Teams from the city’s electricity business unit were reportedly first on the scene on Friday evening to manage the fire.
As part of the response, the Rooiwal electricity line was disconnected, impacting supply to the Pumani and Waltloo substations.
Tshwane spokesperson Lindela Mashigo says technicians were on site on Saturday afternoon assessing the extent of the damage.
“The safety of personnel, surrounding communities and critical infrastructure remains the city’s highest priority. The full extent of the damage remains unknown at this stage, and an estimated time of restoration is not yet available,” Mashigo said.
