There are renewed calls for the safety of children after the body of a 6-year-old boy was found inside a washing machine in Cape Town.
Police made the grim discovery last Friday when they escorted the child's father back home in Cafda after he reported the child missing.
While no arrests have yet been made, human rights group The Callas Foundation says violence against children does not happen in isolation.
Activist and community leader Caroline Peters has called for stronger accountability and prevention measures.
"When the child goes missing and is later found deceased, especially in a place that should have been safe, it raises serious concerns about how we're protecting our children. It's important to say that violence against children does not happen in isolation. Often it occurs where warning signs are missed and where systems meant to protect children fail to intervene early," she added.
