Emergency services in the City of Tshwane have recovered the bodies of two individuals from the Hennops River in Centurion following a period of intense rainfall that lashed several parts of the metro.

The City’s Emergency Services Department (ESD) launched search and rescue operations on Sunday after receiving urgent reports of missing persons. The operations were initiated in response to the severe weather conditions that caused significant rising water levels across the region.

It is understood that the two deceased, both in their early 20s, were the occupants of a vehicle that became trapped in the river.

Emergency Services spokesperson Nana Radebe-Kgiba confirmed that recovery teams discovered the victims inside the vehicle.

Authorities have urged motorists to exercise extreme caution during heavy downpours and to avoid crossing low-lying bridges or roads prone to flooding.
