13 December 2025 | 15:52The top section of this key access route to Cape Town's Atlantic Seaboard has been closed to traffic since September 2023.

More than two years have passed since the upper section of Kloof Road was closed in the interests of public safety.
The section between Kloof Nek Road and Round House Road was closed after a storm caused severe damage in September 2023, with further damage occurring during heavy winter rains in 2024.
This scenic stretch of road running along Camps Bay's Glen forest nature reserve connects Cape Town’s City Bowl to the Atlantic Seaboard and its various suburbs.
Repairs have been underway near the lower end of Kloof Road, close to Nettleton Road.
The City of Cape Town has now given the assurance that repair work to the upper section will start by March 2026.

The City explains that the first two months of the year will be used to obtain the necessary construction permits and approvals as prescribed by the environmental management plan, given that Kloof Road is located within Table Mountain National Park.
"The first two months will be used to get the construction permits and the contractor will have to prepare a method statement on what measures they will take to minimise and limit the impact on the sensitive natural environment", says Rob Quintas, Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility. "Thus, if residents don’t see spades in the ground in January 2026, they should not be alarmed and think nothing is happening."
Quintas says they are eager for the project to start, as the City is well aware of the inconvenience and frustration resulting from the closure of this important access route.
The entire duration of the project is expected to be about 11 months.
