The Wynberg Magistrates Court has reopened to the public following an evacuation on Thursday morning, prompted by a bomb threat.

Western Cape Police confirmed that the building was searched by the South African Police Service (SAPS) K9 Unit, and no suspicious devices or parcels were found.

The threat was reported shortly before 9:00 AM, leading to the immediate evacuation of court staff and the public while police secured the scene.

Police Spokesperson Frederick van Wyk detailed how the incident unfolded.

"According to reports, the Telkom operator received a call of a person informing that there is a bomb planted on one of the floors," Van Wyk stated. "The security, court manager, and SAPS were immediately informed and the building was evacuated."

After the K9 Unit concluded its sweep of the premises, the area was declared safe. Court proceedings and public services at the Wynberg Magistrates Court have since resumed.
