Lawyers for Johannesburg Director of Public Prosecutions Andrew Chauke have accused National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) boss Shamila Batohi of poisoning the atmosphere of Chauke’s inquiry by baselessly linking him to state capture.
Batohi is being cross-examined in the inquiry into Chauke’s fitness to hold office as the main complainant.

Batohi laid a complaint against Chauke with President Cyril Ramaphosa, leading to the establishment of the inquiry.
Chauke is accused of making politically motivated prosecutorial decisions.
During proceedings on Monday morning, Chauke’s lawyer, Advocate Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, questioned Batohi on why she repeatedly mentioned Chauke in connection with state capture.
