DA wants police to investigate MK MP Zuma-Sambudla for human trafficking, providing foreign military assistance & fraud

The Democratic Alliance (DA) wants the police to investigate uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party member of Parliament, Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, for human trafficking, providing foreign military assistance and fraud.

MP Chris Hattingh said the party had phone texts from South African men in Ukraine claiming that Zuma-Sambudla lured them under false pretences to fight for Russia.

Last week, the story broke of at least 17 South Africans who claim that Zuma-Sambudla tricked them into travelling to the war-torn Donbas region, where they are believed to be stationed on the frontlines of the war.

On Thursday, the party laid a complaint at the Cape Town Police Station on the back of another complaint submitted by Zuma-Sambudla’s sister at the Sandton Police Station over the weekend.

Hattingh said that he had received text messages from those abroad and their families that implicate Zuma-Sambudla. 

But whether Zuma-Sambudla benefited from the arrangement is unclear.

"There’s a strong motive. The way she motivates these men to go there and to undergo the training, there must be a strong motive in this. You don’t do this for your own leisure. There needs to be a motive. I don’t know what it is, I can only speculate."
