Western Cape High Court Judge Robert Henney on Monday urged the prosecution team to make haste and finish their cross-examination of alleged underworld gang boss Nafiz Modack.
Modack has been in the witness box for three months to account for the 122 charges he faces along with 14 co-accused.
Prosecutors are now questioning Modack about his alleged involvement in the attempted murder of prominent criminal defence attorney William Booth.
State prosecutor Greg Wolmarans on Monday took Modack back to the testimony of self-confessed gunman "Mister A", who told the court he worked for Modack as a hitman.
Mister A told the court co-accused Ziyaad Poole recruited him from the Terrible West Siders gang to perform murderson behalf of Modack.
Poole allegedly gave "Mister A" Booth as a target in 2019, but the gunman's attempts to murder the attorney were halted when he was arrested for possession of an illegal firearm in December that year.
Modack denied paying former attorney Gary Newmark to provide legal services to Mister A after his arrest.
"Mister A said he did not pay an absolute cent to Mr Newmark because Mister A believed you covered that bill, and in fact that was Mr Newmark's evidence as well. Is that so?"
"That's false, my lord,” Modack responded.
Modack is set to return to the witness box on Tuesday for his cross-examination to continue.
