The Democratic Alliance (DA) is demanding accuracy and transparency in the upcoming crime statistics.
In October the South African Police Service (SAPS) postponed the release of the quarterly crime statistics for the 2025/26 financial year.
The DA said that the stats are more than four months overdue and has left Parliament and the public in the dark about the true state of crime in the country.
The party also alleges that the late release follows damning findings from the Auditor-General of serious discrepancies and unverifiable data across SAPS reporting systems.
DA MP Lisa Schickerling said that the range from inflated arrest success rates to unreliable firearm recovery figures.
She said that this lack of accuracy and transparency raises serious questions.
"South Africans deserve the full truth about crime in their communities, not selective numbers designed to save face. The DA demands full transparency, independent verification, and a clear explanation to Parliament because without credible data there can be no real strategy, no accountability, and no progress in protecting our people, especially women and children."
