Sudan has called on South Africa to support its pursuit of justice against the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), accused of mass killings, looting, and sexual violence against the Sudanese people.
The conflict between the RSF and the Sudan armed forces has led to deaths and the displacement of 12,5 million people, since the war broke out in 2023.
At a media briefing on Friday in Pretoria, the Republic of Sudan ambassador Osman Abufatima Adam noted that the conflict has gone on for more than two years, allegedly due to the United Arab Emirates' support for the RSF.
He mentioned that the ammunition used by the paramilitary group can be linked to the UAE and several other powerful western countries.
The East African country has been engulfed in armed conflict for more than two years now, with millions of civilians left to experience a humanitarian catastrophe.
Recent academic research has revealed satellite imagery showing mass graves being dug in El-Fasher, which was captured by the RSF after an 18-month siege.
Many international communities have called for a ceasefire to allow for humanitarian aid to the millions of civilians in the war-torn region.
"We call upon South Africa to condemn the creation of any bordering government structure and so to refrain from dealing with these structures or any related personalities to this issue. To facilitate the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the infrastructure of the Sudan and to provide development and humanitarian assistance," said Adam.
Meanwhile, the RSF has agreed to proposals for a humanitarian ceasefire put forward by mediators for humanitarian aid.
