New Miss SA Qhawekazi Mazaleni vows to use platform to address cycle of unemployment

Newly crowned Miss South Africa Qhawekazi Mazaleni has vowed to use her platform to address the cycle of unemployment in the country.
The 24-year-old was awarded the title in October and has hit the ground running, inspiring young people.

The beauty queen believes it’s high time that the country zooms in on the root causes of unemployment, as opposed to focusing on its symptoms.
Her current focus is on the country’s literacy rates and access to books.
“I think one of the biggest challenges is possibly a lack of hope. Just because we see our statistics like our unemployment statistics, looking at our GBV [gender-based violence] statistics, as well as our illiteracy statistics, it makes it difficult for our youth to be able to actually dream and feel as though they can achieve those dreams.”
Mazalenifurther encouraged the youth to follow their passion.
“Pursue your dreams wholeheartedly. Even if sometimes you might think that it might not work out, there’s always something that you’ll be able to learn from whatever situation that you put yourself in, so don’t be afraid to try.”
