Acting Minister of Police Firoz Cachalia said KwaZulu-Natal Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi’s July press conference was inappropriate and it worried him.
He said Mkhwanazi’s appearance in public in full military gear was unusual and he should have tried to be professional as a senior policeman.

Cachalia was responding to the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee’s evidence leader who questioned him about Mkhwanazi’s allegations.
He was giving evidence before the Parliamentary Ad Hoc Committee investigating police corruption on Wednesday.
“His appearance before the public in full military regalia, and so forth, worried me and I made a statement to that effect after my appointment and I said, at the time, which I maintain, is correct. That kind of public statement was not in the ordinary situation, in the expected situation appropriate.”
