Joburg residents say water crisis affects their daily lives

Hundreds of water protestors from civil society organisations, trade unions and residents’ associations have vowed to continue their quest to receive an adequate water supply from the City of Johannesburg. PICTURE by Our City News
Frustrated Johannesburg residents have complained about the negative impact they say ongoing water shortages are having on their children’s education.
They say the inconsistent supply of water affects how often their children are able to attend school.
On Saturday, residents from different communities and several civic groups demonstrated outside the city’s council chambers, calling for urgent action.
They handed over a memorandum of demands to Mayor Dada Morero, who committed to a meeting with the various organisations.
Amandla. Mobi’s zintle tyuku emphasised the urgent need for immediate resolutions to the water crisis.
“We need them to respond immediately because the water crisis has gotten out of hand, and communities that cannot afford to pay for the water that they require are being forced to pay that money. And everybody is crying just across the board.” Tyuku said.
