An expert from the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research has assured Johannesburg residents that the current water challenges will come to an end soon.

Jeff Baloyi said they had identified models that could help the city save water and improve its ability to supply water.

He was speaking during Rand Water’s Water Wise outreach programme in Soweto on Thursday.

The City of Johannesburg has recently experienced several water supply issues, with some communities going without running water for weeks on end.

Baloyi said together with the city, they’re working on finding the best solution.

"The strategy which we use in Joburg should be different from other cities or other metros as well. But there's a huge hope in terms of Joburg Water and then coming around with a solution. Joburg Water has been looking also in terms of the reclamation of water. So, which is very important because that meaning now you are creating another alternative source of water."
