CoCT to respond to memorandum of demands for basic services from Khayelitsha residents

City of Cape Town officials say they will respond to a memorandum handed to them by the residents of Khayelitsha.
Close to a thousand Khayelitsha residents marched to Cape Town Civic Centre demanding basic services on Friday.

They said that they’re in dire need of water supply, electricity, and road infrastructure.
While Eskom is the power supplier for the area, community activist Ndithini Tyhido claimed that the city has delayed discussions with Eskom to take over supplying power.
"We're fighting for special equality in Cape Town. The overall struggle in Cape Town is to deal with the special equality so that we dispel the notion of the tale of two cities. One Cape Town for the rich and have another Cape Town for the poor and have nots."
The city said it does offer services, where available, in informal settlements built on city-owned land, according to budget and planned service delivery programmes.
