A former pre-school teacher found guilty of the rape and murder of her boyfriend's child is back in the Johannesburg High Court for sentencing proceedings.
Amber Lee Hughes killed and sexually assaulted the four-year-old Nada Challita in 2023.

In August, the Johannesburg High Court ruled that Hughes planned to kill the little girl.
After two years of proceedings and many delays, Hughes's sentencing is finally in sight.
The parents of the little girl say nothing can bring their child back.
Hughes drowned the little girl in a bathtub in their home in 2023.
The pre-school teacher was in a relationship with the child’s father at the time.
In August, Judge Richard Makhabela stated that Hughes had not only wasted the court's time with her false testimony but also caused unnecessary trauma for the child's family.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) said it would be arguing for maximum sentencing.
