His matter was postponed to 3 November for a formal bail application.
Earlier in October, two gunmen allegedly opened fire at Qedukoma Tavern, killing five patrons and injuring six others.
EWN understands that one of the suspects involved was targeting a specific patron who was shot first, multiple times, before firing into the crowd.
The 33-year-old man appeared before court wearing blue jeans, a white T-shirt and a mask covering his face.
He is the first suspect to be arrested in connection with the shooting.
Community members packed the courtroom, hoping to confirm the identity of the man in the dock.
They believe that the attack was sparked by a personal grudge against one of the victims, identified as Dan Ndlovu.
But court officials maintained that he could not be identified until all legal procedures had been completed.
