Prince Andrew’s royal standing has sunk even lower amid fresh allegations linked to the Jeffrey Epstein scandal.

The duke, who previously lost his 'His Royal Highness' status, is now giving up his title as Duke of York and stepping down from the Order of the Garter.

According to international correspondent Adam Gilchrist, palace sources have described the developments as 'another painful chapter' for the royal family.

The latest blow follows claims in a forthcoming memoir by the late Virginia Giuffre, who accused the prince of sexual misconduct, allegations he has consistently denied.

Gilchrist explains that the memoir reportedly includes references to recovered emails suggesting Andrew attempted to use a police protection officer to gather damaging information about Giuffre.

Andrew and his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, have also lost nearly all remaining charitable and business affiliations as the fallout from their ties to Epstein continues.

"Oh, my word, the stuff surrounding him!" says Gilchrist.

"Where does he go from here? Apart from further down."
