WC police warns about fraudulent Truecaller profile displaying provincial top cop's name

Western Cape police are warning members of the public about fraudulent Truecaller profiles.

Police said there is a profile linked to a landline number falsely displaying the name of the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant Thembisile Patekile.

The South African Police Service (SAPS) said the number was not related to the provincial commissioner.

Police spokesperson Andrè Traut said citizens should always verify official SAPS communication through legitimate channels.

"The South African Police Service in the Western Cape warns the public about a fake Truecaller profile linked with the number 021 811 2463. We urge the public not to engage with calls from this number, and to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station or the SAPS Crime Stop line."
