Suspended Deputy Commissioner Shadrack Sibiya has warned South Africans against praising KwaZulu-Natal top cop Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, saying this will create a "monster" no one can control.
He said had he been in Mkhwanazi’s position when he held a press conference in combat gear, he would have been fired on the spot by his superiors.

Sibiya criticised Mkhwanazi on Tuesday during the last day ofhis testimony before Parliament’s ad hoc committee investigating police corruption.
Sibiya confirmed that there's no love lost between him and Mkhwanazi during his two-day testimony.
Sibiya dismissed a lot of Mkhwanazi’s allegations that he was behind a push to disband the political killings task team (PKTT) and interfered in the fight against criminal syndicates in Gauteng.
Sibiya also told members of Parliament (MPs) that Mkhwanazi’s rise in popularity, especially on social media, could come back to bite them.
He said no provincial commissioner would get away with what Mkhwanazi is doing.
"No provincial commissioner you will see on TikTok. He’s the only one that campaigns and is funded on TikTok. And this wins over South Africans - you touch Mkhwanazi you touch us, but he’s a policeman. So, I’m just saying there are a lot of things that are wrong that we are supporting as a country, and we are creating a monster that no one is able to control."
Sibiya wrapped up his evidence on Tuesday night and will now prepare for another appearance before the Madlanga Commission to answer the same allegations.
