The defence's first witness in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has taken the stand in the Pretoria High Court.
The matter resumed today after several postponements, with the defence promising to be ready this morning. Five men are standing trial for the 2014 murder of the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper at the Vosloorus home of his then-girlfriend, Kelly Khumalo.
It has been almost three months since the State wrapped up its case against the five accused, and the ball is now in the defence's court to call their witnesses.
Accused Number 1, Muzi Sibiya, has taken the stand in his own defence as the first witness. His lawyer, Advocate Charles Mnisi, has started leading his evidence.
Meanwhile, the court has made an order compelling Legal Aid to cover accommodation and travel costs for all the defence's witnesses for the duration of their testimonies.
