The first accused in the Senzo Meyiwa trial has told the Pretoria High Court that he had no involvement in the football star’s murder.
The defence opened its case on Monday, and Muzi Sibiya is the first witness.
He has spent the day describing to the court how he was arrested by police in 2019, five years after Meyiwa’s murder.
Sibiya has told the court that he was repeatedly assaulted by police who were trying to force him to confess to the Bafana Bafana captain’s murder, taking him to different locations and assaulting him.
“As we arrived in that courtyard, that's when Mr Gininda asked me if i am still denying my involvement. That’s what i asked him to please believe me, I know nothing about the murder of Senzo Meyiwa.”
