With summer around the corner, the City of Cape Town is urging beachgoers to respect Mother Nature.
Last week, the city embarked on a beach clean-up at Maiden’s Cove near Camps Bay.
The clean-up formed part of municipal plans to maintain public areas while promoting environmental responsibility.
Residents are also reminded of the golden rules for safe swimming, which include only swimming between the red-and-yellow flags and not leaving children unsupervised near water.
MMC for Community Services and Health, Francine Higham, said protecting beaches is a shared responsibility.
“We’re asking our residents to please work with us to keep our beaches clean. Please don’t drink on the beach, please put your litter in the bingo bins, and please recycle where you can. These public spaces are for families, friends, and visitors to enjoy, and it's up to all of us to protect them, so let's all do our part to keep Cape Town clean.” Higham said.
