Protesting students at the University of Fort Hare (UFH) are still refusing to vacate the Alice campus’ residences as instructed by management.
They’re complaining that among them are vulnerable groups, including people with disabilities and pregnant students, who will be homeless should they leave the university.
On Thursday, campus management instructed students to vacate the premises by 5pm.
And on Friday morning, student organisations took the university to the East London High Court pending an outcome.
Student Lubha Nyathi said the plan was to stay put: “There are disabled students, female students, pregnant students, so I don’t know what are they trying to do because they are posing danger to these students, we are going to have a lot of gender based violence cases if ever we allow students to go around.”
