After years of friendship, singer-songwriters Msaki and Jesse Clegg recently teamed up for a powerful and unexpected collaboration on their joint EP titled 'Entropy', which was released in September.

The pair say the project was born out of shared vulnerability, where the two bonded over loss, healing, and finding joy in creating again.

“I think it was a combination of just being good friends and having deeply held beliefs and interests that really aligned, and also we were just in the studio a lot. We both live in music, and we create all the time. We never really had a strong intention to create an album together, but we both were fans of each other and we just started writing songs. So, there was never like a point where we were like, right, we're going to make this a real project. It really just flowed from the songs that started emerging, and I think when we both realised that these songs don't sound like me or Msaki, it sounds like something else – like some third new artist that emerged, and that was very exciting,” says Jesse Clegg.

Msaki adds: "When we started writing songs, it was like a moment of survival. A state of emergency doesn't last forever, and we were both in crisis mode when we met. Jesse was there for me, and I was there for Jesse, and the music emerged from a place that you don't think you're going to go back to real life. Now we're back in real life – you're healed, to a certain extent, we're always healing. Let's do the thing that makes us happy, let's make sure that we release this music."

The EP's lead single, 'Wayside Lover,' includes a collaboration with Sjava.

They will debut their EP live at a special concert on 19 October at Walter Sisulu Gardens in Roodepoort.
