Johannesburg MMC for Community Development Tebogo Nkonkou has hit back at the minority governing parties (MGP) in the city calling for his removal.
The minority governing parties are a grouping of ten small parties that form part of the African National Congress (ANC)-led coalition government in the municipality.
In response, Nkonkou said he doesn’t recognise the MPG as a formal structure.
"It is therefore misleading and legally baseless for any group to suggest that it has 'resolved' to recall me from a position to which I was lawfully appointed by the executive mayor," said Nkonkou.
Nkonkou added that his party, the Pan Africanist Congress of Azania (PAC), was not merely a coalition partner to the ANC in Johannesburg but also nationally in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
"Any attempts to destabilise or undermine the functioning of this government, whether nationally or within the City of Johannesburg, will be firmly resisted," said Nkonkou.
