Phala Phala: An accused allegedly blew R4m of stolen money on 6 cars within a year

One of the suspects charged with breaking into President Cyril Ramaphosa’s Phala Phala farm allegedly blew about R4 million of the stolen money on six cars within one year.

This is according to testimony of a sales manager at a car dealership in Benoni.

The manager testified on Friday at the Modimolle Regional Court about his relationship with accused number one, Imanuwela David.

David, along with siblings Froliana and Ndilinasho Joseph, stand accused of breaking into the president’s farm and stealing $580,000 in cash.

On the morning of 10 February 2020, a day after the break-in at the Phala Phala farm, the sales manager received a call, saying there was a man interested in buying a car from his floor.

From that day on, David and the sales manager would develop a close relationship.

The sales manager testified he sold David a Golf GTI, a VW Polo, BMW M5, Porsche Carera 4S and two identical Mercedes Benz G-Wagon's after David crashed his first one.

The sales manager said David bought all the cars cash in US dollars.

“Me being a salesman, I demo’d the car to accused number one [David]. What’s in the car, like CDs and stuff like that. From there onwards, I took him to the director [of the car dealership] and they discussed the prices and stuff like that. From there onwards, my job is done.” he added.

The trial resumes on Monday.
