The African National Congress (ANC) said it will only select capable, ethical and qualified candidates to represent the party in the upcoming local government elections.
The party's national executive committee (NEC), its highest decision-making body in between conferences, is holding a special meeting to discuss its list process, among other issues.
The meeting is taking place at the Birchwood Hotel in Boksburg, Ekurhuleni.
Speaking during a media briefing on Saturday, ANC Secretary General Fikile Mbalula said the party takes the faith voters have put in it to solve the country's many problems seriously.
"This is not just about compiling lists; it’s about the quality of leadership we put before our people. Our process is clear and uncompromising. Candidates must emerge from community consultations, undergo rigorous vetting and be assessed, not by factional loyalty, but by their integrity." Mbalula said.
