A series of fake news posts were shared between alleged underworld figure and tender tycoon, Vusimuzi "Cat" Matlala and North West businessman, Brown Mogotsi.
Messages between the pair were revealed before the Madlanga Commission in Pretoria during the testimony of Crime Intelligence boss, Dumisani Khumalo.
Khumalo presented the messages to the commission as part of his evidence, suggesting Mogotsi and Matlala were fuelling misinformation campaigns on the back of the instruction to disband the political killings task team.
He referred to a message Mogotsi sent Matalala talking about the arrest of national police commissioner, Fannie Masemola, which never happened.
"It’s another example as to how far the misinformation will go, in trying to put issues or names, who are not even supposed to be together, in that story."
